University of Exeter Islamic Society

The University of Exeter Islamic Society provides a platform for those individuals both from an Islamic and non-Islamic background to further their knowledge about Islam. Through a combination of regular guest speakers, film screenings, social events, sports and art activities such as our yearly Spoken Word Poetry event, we provide a platform for our members to enhance their creativity whilst simultaneously enabling them to access a range of resources regarding Islam.

Welcome to the University of Exeter Islamic Society, inviting anyone from an Islamic background as well as those with an interest in Islam.

We are an award winning student group. Winning FOSIS South ‘Most Outstanding Islamic Society’ 2012/13 and the University’s Students’ Guild ‘Student Group of the Year’ 2012/13.

Exeter Islamic Society welcomes anyone from an Islamic background as well as those with an interest in Islam.

We provide members with social opportunities as well as the chance to develop their knowledge of Islam as well as their faith.
 
We have a range of events, including regular guest speakers, poetry nights, film screenings, sports activities and social events, including a range of  FREE resources on Islam for those who are interested.

Meet the committee

Below are the committee members running the Islamic Society of Exeter University for the 2018/2019 academic year.
Madina Bengaly

Madina Bengaly

President

Madina manages the society's affairs, as well as facilitating meetings and acting as a point of contact for the society. She also liaises with the Guild on any issues which may arise, and works closely with the treasurer on budgeting the society.

Latifah Wallace

Latifah Wallace

Vice President

Latifah works closely with the president to manage the society, as well as fulfilling the roles of the president when absent. Alongside this, she also acts as vice president for the sisters, helping to plan and carry out events that sisters take part in.

Ashraf Mohamed

Ashraf Mohamed

Publicity Officer

Ashraf runs our social media platforms, as well as the society's website. He regularly publicises events on our social media, specifically by creating pages and posters. He works closely with the head of fundraising to ensure this.

Omar Bhula

Omar Bhula

Treasurer

Omar works closely with the president on budgeting matters and fixing prices for events and talks. He also helps to reimburse costs with the president, and submits budgets for events. He helps to budget finance for specific society campaigns.

Andisha Kazimi

Head of Fundraising and Campaigns

Andisha manages the four main events: Charity Week, Islamophobia Awareness month, Believe and Do Good month and Discover Islam Week. She also helps to book speakers for these events. She also works closely with the publicity officer to help with any society posters.

Uzma Harun

Uzma Harun

Events Manager

Uzma ensures that events which the Islamic Society hold run smoothly and effectively. She books venues for these events, as well as managing logistics and any Islamic Society stash. She also works closely with the head of fundraising and campaigns to ensure this.

Maryan Abdulle

Maryan Abdulle

St. Luke's Representative

Maryan acts as the point of contact for publicity required in our St. Luke's campus. and promotes the Islamic Society. She works closely with other members to ensure that publicity is represented thoroughly outside of the Streatham campus, and actively takes part in running different society events.

Behram

General Secretary

Behram acts as the society's secretary, whilst also helping to book stalls, specifically in the Forum. He completes and submits risk assessments for events to the A&V (Activities and Volunteering) department, as well as sending all society members relevant emails relating to different events.
